to hasten the revival of aloft
shimmer-like words
that shape and betray
the troth
between spiders and gossamers
to yarn
the magic of the moon above
the bounty of the greens in May
the pleasure of the fields to stay
till cobwebs sparkle with dews
and decay…

Yes, we have a lot of laughs here too :).. In some days I am Sooo grateful to our resourceful well of crafty Romanian humour. We are lucky because we have a lot of “raw materials” to be molded in irresistible jokes 🙂
So true Iulia. I think that unique sense of humour, the ability to laugh at themselves and the terrible situations they have had to endure (and still do), have been an essential factor in the survival of the Romanian nation and culture. It’s well worth learning a bit of Romanian just for that!
You are so right… Yes, we have had a lot of shortcomings, but we have a powerful ability, the ability to laugh at everything.. To epitomize my country in a few words, the place where you never get bored :). I have gathered that you speak Romanian :). You have my unlimited admiration for this, as it is a very difficult language 🙂
Thank you for your “admiration”. I count myself lucky and it was vital to learn it as my then wife to be didn’t speak a word of English! (no one in the school where we taught did). In fact she deserves the admiration as she went from “My name’s Petronela, I don’t speak English” when she arrived here to, within a year, getting the qualification in English to have ‘Qualified Teacher Status’ and has been teaching high school here ever since. I can speak your language pretty well, and read it with few problems (not Ion Creanga!) but have never cracked writing it correctly; I think I’d need to live in Romania again to do that, perhaps.
You are welcome! 🙂 Well, this is a long term problem in Romanian schools. I myself studied French and English but French was the key language. We had a different English teacher every year, and the textbooks were not reliable. I intended to pursue a career in French till I stumbled upon All irregular French verbs, then I decided English was the best ;). Good for your wife! It is not that easy to master English within the space of one year. I totally understand your “predicament” about Ion Creangă, our merciless professors at university gave us as exam tasks translations from his work.:) I am sending my best to you and your wife!
