What is the Sequence of Tenses?
✅ The rules governing verb tenses are dictated by logic; an action in the future obviously cannot happen before an action in the past. In writing, it’s a matter of looking at your clauses and sentences and determining when each action is happening relative to everything else. The past must come before the present, and the present before the future, etc.
Pay particular attention to the verb sequence when you have a dependent clause before an independent clause, or a result clause before the if-clause.

✅ When an independent clause is in the past tense, any dependent clauses must also be written in the past tense, not the present tense or the future tense. Consider the example below for an illustration of this rule:
The cat was bathing because his feet are dirty.
The cat was bathing because his feet will be dirty.

✅ Because the tense of the independent clause is in the past (was bathing), the verb in the dependent clause should also be in the past, as illustrated in the sentence below:
The cat was bathing because his feet were dirty.

🔔What is the passive voice?

➡️In general, the active voice makes your writing stronger, more direct, and, you guessed it, more active. The subject is something, or it does the action of the verb in the sentence. With the passive voice, the subject is acted upon by some other performer of the verb. (In case you weren’t paying attention, the previous two sentences use the type of voice they describe.)

➡️But the passive voice is not incorrect. In fact, there are times when it can come in handy. Read on to learn how to form the active and passive voices, when using the passive voice is a good idea, and how to avoid confusing it with similar forms.

🔔The difference between active and passive voice

➡️While tense is all about time references, voice describes whether the grammatical subject of a clause performs or receives the action of the verb.

➡️Here’s the formula for the active voice:
[subject]+[verb (performed by the subject)]+[optional object]
Chester kicked the ball.

➡️In a passive voice construction, the grammatical subject of the clause receives the action of the verb. So the ball from the above sentence, which is receiving the action, becomes the subject. The formula:
[subject]+[some form of the verb to be]+[past participle of a transitive verb]+[optional prepositional phrase]
The ball was kicked by Chester.

➡️That last little bit—“by Chester”—is a prepositional phrase that tells you who the performer of the action is. But even though Chester is the one doing the kicking, he’s no longer the grammatical subject. A passive voice construction can even drop him from the sentence entirely:
The ball was kicked.

In its broadest sense, a covenant is a promise, agreement, or contract between two parties. As part of the covenant, the two parties agree that certain activities will or will not be carried out.

Covenants in finance most often relate to terms in a financial contract, such as a loan document or bond issue stating the limits at which the borrower can further lend. Covenants in religion often convey the binding relationship between a deity and humanity.

➡️Covenants are agreements between multiple parties that create a legally binding agreement on how each party is to perform.
➡️Covenants can either promote activity to occur (positive covenant) or disallow an event or condition (negative covenant).
➡️Debt covenants are most common, as they place financial covenants on the borrower and lender as part of the loan agreement.
➡️Covenants are legally binding clauses, and if breached will trigger compensatory or other legal action.
➡️Many sectors like finance, real estate, law, and religion have covenants, though it is used in many different contexts across each group.

Regarding business, covenants are most often represented in terms of financial ratios that must be maintained, such as a maximum debt-to-asset ratio or other such ratios. They cover various aspects, from minimum dividend payments to working capital levels. If a covenant is broken, the lender can call back the obligation or reduce risk. There are two primary types: affirmative and negative covenants, and a third type, financial covenants, sometimes separated into its own category.

Different industries and sectors have different types of covenants. In general, it’s pretty common to see both positive and negative covenants across different industries.
