BUSINESS ENGLISH TUTORIAL: Soft Skills

🔔What Are Soft Skills?

💥Topics for our courses

✅In today’s fast-paced world, success in the workplace requires more than just technical expertise and knowledge. As the nature of work continues to evolve, it is important for individuals to possess attributes and abilities that allow them to collaborate with teams and colleagues—otherwise known as soft skills.

✅Soft skills—also known as “people skills” or “interpersonal skills”—are a set of personal attributes and abilities that allow individuals to effectively interact with others in a professional setting. At their core, these include the ability to collaborate effectively, manage time, and communicate with clarity, among others.

✅Soft skills are difficult to measure or quantify; however, they are essential for success in a wide range of industries and professions. Whether you are working with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds or communicating with customers and clients around the world, the ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics and build strong relationships is the key to success.

🔔Examples of soft skills: Communication, Leadership, Problem-solving, Coaching and mentoring, Management, Strategic thinking, Teamwork, Conflict resolution, Mediation, Accountability, Collaboration, Creativity…

BUSINESS ENGLISH TUTORIAL: Salary or Wages?

🔔Difference Between Salary and Wages

💥This is a common question in our business and finance courses.

🔔TOPICS FOR OUR COURSES

Salary is a fixed amount paid or transferred to the employees at regular intervals for their performance and productivity, at the end of the month whereas wages are hourly or daily-based payment given to the labor for the amount of work finished in a day.

✅The main difference between salary and wages lies in the fact that salary is fixed, i.e. it is predetermined and agreed between the employer and employee, while wages are not fixed, as it varies depending on the performance of the labor.

✅Salaried persons are generally said to be doing “white collar office jobs” which implies that an individual is well educated, skilled and is employed with some firm and holds a good position in the society.

✅Wage is termed as a compensation that is given on the basis of the amount of work done and the hours spent in doing that. Wages are variable and do vary with day to day functioning of an individual. Wages are given to labors who are engaged in manufacturing processes and get the compensation on a daily basis.

LEGAL ENGLISH TUTORIAL: Chattel

🔔TOPICS FOR OUR BESPOKE LEGAL ENGLISH COURSES

💥What Is Chattel?
🔔Chattel is personal property that is movable between locations, as opposed to real property, which has a fixed location. Common examples include mobile homes, furniture, and automobiles. This article explains what chattel is and how it is used as security in chattel mortgages.

🔔In the legal and financial world, chattel refers to movable personal property. Chattel’s value can drop rapidly due to depreciation, as is often seen with new cars, and typically does not increase with improvements or renovations.

🔔For these reasons, chattel property is treated differently from real estate for tax and accounting purposes.

🔔Additionally, legal systems treat the rights to chattel property differently from the rights to real property. The rights to real property typically have longer statutes of limitations and are harder to overturn.

LEGAL ENGLISH TUTORIAL: Golden Shares

🔔TOPICS FOR OUR LEGAL ENGLISH CLASSES

🔔What Is A Golden Share?
A golden share is a type of share that gives its shareholder veto power over changes to the company’s charter. It holds special voting rights, giving its holder the ability to block another shareholder from taking more than a ratio of ordinary shares.

💥Ordinary shares are equal to other ordinary shares in profits and voting rights. These shares also have the ability to block a takeover or acquisition by another company.

💥Golden shares can be issued by public companies or governments. One of these shares controls at least 51% of voting rights. In the case of a company, it can only issue golden shares after passing special resolutions and changing its memorandum and articles of association. This document governs or dictates a company’s relationship with outside businesses.

💥Golden shares were most popular during the 1980s when the British government began privatizing companies and wished to retain control over them. Governments in other parts of Europe and the Soviet Union also followed suit.

💥Golden shares have been predominantly used in the United Kingdom. Other countries, including Brazil, use golden shares to keep control over state-run entities. The European Union, on the other hand, has mostly banned the use of golden shares by companies and governments. While the EU permits governments to protect vital services, it does not allow golden shares, calling them unjustified and disproportionate to the interests of the company and economy.

ENGLISH GRAMMAR TUTORIAL: Simple Present Tense: How to Use It, With Examples

Simple Present Tense: How to Use It, With Examples

Check out the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKcWvrcEL-o

Welcome to the most informative YouTube channel for English learners!

The simple present is a verb tense with two main uses. We use the simple present tense when an action happens regularly (or unceasingly, which is why it’s sometimes called present indefinite). Depending on the person, the simple present tense is formed by using the root form or by adding s or es to the end.
The other is to talk about habitual actions or occurrences.

I hope you enjoyed this English lesson about the Present Simple tense!

TOPICS FOR OUR LEGAL ENGLISH COURSES: Moral Hazard

What Is Moral Hazard?

Moral hazard is the risk that a party has not entered into a contract in good faith or has provided misleading information about its assets, liabilities, or credit capacity. In addition, moral hazard also may mean a party has an incentive to take unusual risks in a desperate attempt to earn a profit before the contract settles.

Moral hazards can be present anytime two parties come into agreement with one another. Each party in a contract may have the opportunity to gain from acting contrary to the principles laid out by the agreement.

Anytime a party in an agreement does not have to suffer the potential consequences of a risk, the likelihood of a moral hazard increases.

Premium English Trainer

A big misconception with freelance talent is that you’re paying for their time.

You aren’t.

You’re paying for their availability.

Canceling a booking at the last minute due to a client’s project postponement does not absolve you of the responsibility to compensate the freelancer you have hired.

They have probably adjusted their plans to accommodate your needs and turned down other opportunities to prioritize working with you.

They have made themselves accessible for you, and this is what you are reserving and compensating for.

LEGAL ENGLISH TUTORIAL: Understanding Contract Clauses

⚡️Here is a contract clauses guide to learn about different clauses.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cb859nGwFP4

⚡️Purpose of a Contract Clause
A clause dictates the terms of the contract through specific provisions and conditions. Contracts often contain boilerplate clauses or standard clauses found across most contracts. These standard clauses do not require a lot of negotiation. Sometimes contracts can also contain very specific clauses that are aligned with a specific case or term of the deal.

⚡️Clauses in a contract are important for laying out certain conditions under which parties agree to the terms of the contract. They also can provide direction on how the contract will be enforced under different conditions or events. For instance, if your employment contract contains a clause to keep information about the company confidential, the employee would be required to keep all proprietary information a secret. You should carefully read clauses before proceeding to the contract signing step.
