MASTER THE ART OF PRESENTATION: Start with a Villain

Many executives start presentations about products or initiatives with a vague theme statement, often expressed with as much pith as a puff of smoke: “We have a new focus on customer satisfaction,” or “Our current strategic goals are execution and innovation.” But this approach is not only lacking but lackluster. Did Shakespeare begin Hamlet by saying “This is a play about indecision”? Of course not.

Villains in business often aren’t animate. In the mind of the consumer, even mere frustration is a recognizable evil. Or the villain could be a transaction that is incomplete or unsatisfying (anything from a faulty product to cold coffee or warm ice cream). The victim is the customer or the person whose problem you’re trying to solve. And doing so will make your company or team the hero.
This villain-victim-hero framework can be applied across many industries.

Writing Tips

I have been asked to write more about copywriting and developing writings skills.

Plese read https://www.quora.com/profile/Iulia-Halatz/Writing-Prompts-That-Work-For-Me-Write-as-if-your-life-depends-on-it-On-first-impression-writing-is-an-activity-like

How I started writing

Storytelling is never easy. It was easier for me as I have formal training.
But I started writing later in my life.

First and foremost, you must love writing and enjoy the soft caress of your story. My stories come in waves. Whenever I start writing, I feel like living in the story I am building.
How do you do that?
In the initial stage of my writing life, whenever I did not know what to write and how to write, I used to describe paintings. Why?
Because painters do not describe feelings, they create sentiments. Therefore, in front of a beautiful painting, I attempt to replicate the artist’s intent through my own words.
For example, I wrote a poem, “My name is green,” while looking at a Van Gogh painting.

But you can never be a good writer unless you are a passionate reader. Words create magic in the pen of astonishing writers. Education is necessary to master this power, unless you’re Shakespeare.

Nevertheless, I write for pleasure and profit.
What could I do to make your writer’s life easier?

Are there processes, guidance, or tools you have in place to help your clients understand a wider context for your work? Or anything you would like to add to make their lives easier?

Mastering Your Unique Selling Proposition: What It Is, Why You Need One And How To Write Your Own

Topics for our business English classes

It’s tough for all brands to stand out in the market.

People are savvy and take the time to learn about and weigh their choices before making a purchase. If you want to get their business, your brand needs to stand out. Unique selling proposition, or USP, is what a brand says about their product or service that makes it better or different from others on the market. To focus your sales efforts, you need to know what makes your brand different in a market full of brands that are all the same.

It takes work and imagination to figure out what your USP is. Not many brands are truly one-of-a-kind, but the ones that are find a way to show what makes them special and set themselves apart from others. For instance, Apple doesn’t sell tech tools; it sells new ideas. Robinhood is not selling a product for the very rich; it is selling a way for everyone to get rich. Patagonia is selling more than just clothes. They are selling a cause, a way of life, and an effect.

“Based on our interactions, what is one thing that you can tell me about myself that I may not know about myself?”

I asked the AI (Perplexity) the trending question: “Based on our interactions, what is one thing that you can tell me about myself that I may not know about myself?” and these are the answers:

Discovering Hidden Insights
While I don’t have access to personal data or specific interactions, I can help you reflect on aspects of yourself that you might not have considered. Here are a few areas to explore:

1. Strengths in Communication

You may possess a unique ability to articulate your thoughts clearly, which can be a valuable asset in both personal and professional settings. Consider how you express your ideas and whether others often seek your opinion.

2. Resilience in Challenges

You might underestimate your resilience. Reflect on past challenges you’ve faced and how you’ve navigated them. Recognizing your ability to bounce back can empower you in future situations.

3. Curiosity and Learning

Your questions and interests may reveal a deep-seated curiosity. This trait can lead to continuous personal growth and a rich understanding of the world around you.

4. Empathy and Understanding

If you often find yourself tuning into others’ feelings, you might have a strong sense of empathy. This quality can enhance your relationships and make you a supportive friend or colleague.

5. Creative Problem-Solving

You may have a knack for thinking outside the box when faced with obstacles. Consider how you approach problems—your creativity could be a hidden strength.

I use Perplexity for research and Invideo for my video content.

Inversion in English Grammar with Examples Part 1

MASTER ENGLISH GRAMMAR

Such a mystery is English grammar inversion that we wonder how we can decipher it. When looking to expand your English vocabulary and upgrade your writing to more than just subject-plus-verb sentences, inversions can be of great help. See what inversion grammar is, how to use it in a sentence, and explore the different situations where it might be useful as I explain everything.

Inversion is a style where we change the natural order of the words in a sentence. I know it sounds strange, but it can work when done well. This goes beyond the inversion of a subject and verb and is used with more complexity to creating interesting sentence structures.

What Is an Inversion in English Grammar? Inversion is a term used in English sentences to describe a situation where a word or phrase is placed at the beginning of a normal sentence rather than in its usual position at the end. It means you’re changing the natural order of the words in a sentence.

This can be used for stylistic purposes, to create a more complex or emphatic sentence structure, or simply for variety. In many cases, inverting words and phrases also involves changing their order from normal.

Two Autumnal Fragrances from Phaedon Paris

Facebook reminded me of this article from two years ago:
Two Autumnal Fragrances from Phaedon Paris

“I only want five things, five chosen roots.
One is endless love. Two is to see the autumn.
I cannot exist without leaves flying and falling to earth.
Third is the solemn winter, the rain I loved, the caress of fire in the rough cold.
My fourth is the summer, plump as a watermelon.
And fifthly, your eyes.” ~ Pablo Neruda

Even if October is upon us, we have the gift of a long autumn, where every leaf is a flower, and each newly revealed color has been patiently waiting all year.

LEGAL ENGLISH: Hereof, Herein, Hereafter, Hereon

What we cover in our legal English classes

Legal English: c’est autre chose.

It’s challenging to even begin to explain just how complicated legal language can be. I’ve been teaching legal English to lawyers, solicitors, prosecutors, paralegals, and notary publics for over 20 years now. It’s still my favorite area of English.

hereof = of the thing or document that is being talked about:
This Agreement shall commence on the date of signature hereof.

herein = in this:
The people have no faith in their government, and herein lies the root of the problem.

hereafter = starting from this time; in the future:
Elizabeth Gaskell’s novel “Ruth” will hereafter be cited within the text as EG.

hereon = from this point:
“The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” will hereon be referred to as “TLWW”.
from hereon: It gets a lot harder from hereon.
from hereon in: Progress is likely to slow from hereon in.

BUSINESS ENGLISH: What is a Certificate of Incorporation?

When forming a C Corporation, business owners need to file for a Certificate of Incorporation (sometimes referred to as Articles of Incorporation) to register their company with the state. What is a Certificate of Incorporation exactly? It is a legal document serving as a formal record of a company’s formation.
Who Needs to Submit a Certificate of Incorporation?
Entrepreneurs who want to operate their company as a corporation must file a Certificate of Incorporation form.

They must have their Certificate of Incorporation approved by the state (usually the Secretary of State Office) before they can conduct certain activities in the business name. Some examples include:

Open a corporate bank account
Apply for business licenses and permits
Hire employees
File taxes.
