Hi, I’m Iulia Halatz and I’ve been a Certified Translation Professional since the late 90s.

Every day I do translations from English to Romanian and vice versa.

I also translate my own articles from English into Romanian because I’ve been writing in English for over 20 years. I am a published English-language author in the USA.

I use a custom AI from Advanced Translations based on the functionalities of the DeepL platform, but with improvements to facilitate translation into Romanian (for translations in the perfume industry and NOT for legal and business translations).

So, the AI I’m using is specifically customised for English to Romanian translations.
However, the process of correcting translations made with this customised platform is time-consuming.

It takes me at least 10 minutes per article, and it’s even harder when I translate my own articles!
My literary style is a complex one, developed over many years… Today I translated an article in about 15 minutes.

What I mean is, it’s still a long way off until AI delivers perfect translations.

For specialised business translations and legal documents, I use AI, my legal terminology glossary, and Black’s Law Dictionary.

Yes, I use artificial intelligence for translations, but it accounts for 50% of the actual translation process.
AI translations need to be corrected, improved, and adapted to the context.

Traduceri cu AI? Partea a doua

Hi, sunt Iulia și sunt traducător autorizat de la sfârșitul anilor 90.

În fiecare zi fac traduceri din limba engleză în limba română și invers.

Îmi traduc și propriile articole din limba engleză în limba română deoarece scriu în limba engleză de mai mult de 20 de ani. Sunt autor publicat de limba engleză în SUA.

Folosesc un AI personalizat de Advanced Translations bazat pe funcționalitățile platformei Deepl, dar cu îmbunătățiri pentru a facilita traducerea în limba română (pentru traduceri din industria parfumeriei și Nu pentru traduceri juridice și de afaceri).

Deci, AI-ul pe care îl folosesc este personalizat în mod special pentru traducerile din limba engleză în limba română.
Cu toate acestea, procesul de corectare al traducerilor făcute cu această platformă personalizată este unul laborios.

Îmi ia cel puțin 10 minute pentru un articol, iar când îmi traduc propriile articole e și mai greu!
Stilul meu literar este unul complicat dezvoltat în mulți ani… Astăzi mi-am tradus un articol cam in 15 minute.

Ceea ce vreau să spun este că mai este mult până când AI-ul va livra traduceri perfecte.

Pentru traducerile specializate de afaceri și pentru documente juridice folosesc un AI, glosarul meu de termeni juridici și dicționarul de termeni juridici Black’s Law Dictionary.

Da, folosesc inteligența artificială pentru traduceri, dar ca și pondere 50% din procesul de traducere efectivă.
Traducerile cu AI trebuie corectate, îmbunătățite și adaptate contextului.

Stay Ahead of the AI Curve

There are numerous articles explaining how to stay ahead of the AI curve and what AI cannot accomplish.
I did not intend to stay away; I joined the AI curve. I take advantage of it and learn almost daily new information about how to use AI for research, SEO, communication, scaling my business, saving time, and making more money. However, I continue to write my own articles and take my own photographs.

What are your fears about AI?

I read this in The Atlantic:
“One writing professor Ian spoke with said that AI had ruined the trust he once had in his students and that he’s ready to quit the profession altogether. “I have loved my time in the classroom, but with ChatGPT, everything feels pointless,” he said.

Even before generative AI, many of the papers assigned in undergraduate courses appeared pointless—instructors urge students to create “a bad version of the specialized kind of written output scholars produce.”

As a teacher for almost 25 years, I have experienced the myth of the copied/inspired essay. 
That is why, during the tests and exams, I used to let my students utilize all the sources of information they could find. My exam tasks were so creative that they did not have enough time to cheat or do research. Furthermore, I tried to educate them on the reflex for searching for accurate information.

I also had the opportunity to teach a creative writing course where we explored the works of various novelists and poets, focusing on their unique styles. I then encouraged my students to experiment with writing in a similar fashion. These were some memorable golden hours.

Yes, I agree. AI is borderline boring and flat. The key to mastering AI is understanding how to train it to meet your specific needs. Did you know that only 2% of AI enthusiasts use it wisely?
