What is the American Dream?
The term “American dream” refers to the belief that anyone, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into, can attain their own version of success in a society in which upward mobility is possible for everyone.

The American dream is believed to be achieved through sacrifice, risk-taking, and hard work, rather than by chance.

Journalist and historian James Truslow Adams first used the word in his best-selling 1931 book “Epic of America.” He described it as “that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.”

Adams went on to explain: “It is a difficult dream for the European upper classes to interpret adequately, and too many of us ourselves have grown weary and mistrustful of it. It is not a dream of motorcars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position.”

Link:

Links can be textual (e.g., a word or phrase that is clickable) or graphical (e.g., an image or button that is clickable).
Links can point to various destinations, such as other web pages, images, documents, videos, or specific sections within a webpage.

Hyperlink:
The purpose of a hyperlink is to facilitate navigation between various web pages or resources on the internet.
Typically, HTML code creates hyperlinks, which are clickable elements that direct the user to the specified destination when clicked.
Although people frequently use the term “hyperlink” interchangeably with “link,” it specifically refers to links that connect web pages or online resources.
In summary, all hyperlinks are links, but not all links are hyperlinks. Hyperlinks are a subset of links that specifically refer to clickable elements on web pages that direct users to other web pages or resources on the internet.

A few days ago, I received a message alerting me to copyright infringement on a photo on my blog, which seemed legit as it was sent on behalf of a reputable company. 

We have tried contacting you via your social media and email, but are yet to receive a response.
It has come to our attention that you are using our client’s photographs on seocopywriting.ro without a valid licence.
We have already posted out all supporting documents to the address of your office. Please confirm once you have received them.
In the meantime, we would like to invite you to settle this dispute by making the below payment of £500.

Firstly, I use my own photos or paintings in the public domain. I have extensive experience in this area. So, I was baffled by the message.

Furthermore, as shown above, they accept cryptocurrencies for this ambiguous copyright infringement without specifying which photo is involved.

As I became highly intrigued by this, I visited the webpage of Visual Rights Group, where they asserted that they would never request payment in cryptocurrencies to settle a claim.

I acknowledge that I get a lot of phishing messages through my emails and blogs, but this one appeared to be really genuine.

What is the most frequently mentioned city in literature?

As a book lover and literary critic, the question of the most frequently mentioned city in literature is fascinating, but with a caveat. While London undoubtedly holds the crown for European cities, pinpointing a single global champion is a labyrinthine task.

Literature encompasses a vast terrain – novels, plays, poems, epics, spanning cultures and centuries. Tracking mentions across these diverse forms is challenging. Cities often have different names across languages. Think of Peking becoming Beijing or Constantinople morphing into Istanbul. Counting mentions requires navigating these historical shifts. Religious texts like the Bible frequently mention Jerusalem, but are these strictly “literature” or foundational scripture? The line can be blurry.

However, focusing on London as the frontrunner for the “Western Literary Canon” is fruitful. Here’s why:

For centuries, Britain held immense political and cultural sway. Writers like Charles Dickens (Oliver Twist, Bleak House) captured the grit and grandeur of London. William Shakespeare (Hamlet, Macbeth) used it as a backdrop for power struggles. This sheer volume of prominent British literature naturally amplifies London’s presence.

London transcended a mere city. It embodied the British Empire, a center of commerce and intrigue. Think of Arthur Conan Doyle‘s Sherlock Holmes stories, where London becomes a microcosm of human nature.

London also witnessed major literary movements. Virginia Woolf‘s (Mrs. Dalloway) stream of consciousness technique wouldn’t be the same without capturing the city’s bustling energy.

London is my favourite city in literature, as I appreciate all its other names such as: The City of Dreams, The Global Village, The Green City, The Great Wen.

The latter has an interesting etymology.

The Great Wen is a nickname for London that dates back to the 19th century. It was first coined by William Cobbett, a journalist and social commentator, who used the term to describe the city’s rapid growth and urbanization.

The term “wen” means a boil or pimple, and Cobbett used it to convey his disgust at the way London was expanding and changing.

Write as if your life depends on it.

On first impression writing is an activity like any other, only it is not. It has no routine.
Writing is a creative activity that knows no drills, no thrills, only a lot of hard work.
When I feel tired and my mind feels dry, I might think that I will finish that piece, one way or another. It is not that easy. When I am so tired that I do not want to fight anymore with the words I use the prompt above.
It is very effective.

Writing is a difficult task, which is why we see the rise of AI-generated texts everywhere.
Writers’ block is a harsh truth. This is why some individuals may consider using artificial intelligence (AI) to create articles. It is hard to permanently come up with fresh ideas that conquer hearts.

Start with the truest sentence that you know.
I love this prompt from Hemingway.
It helped me a lot over the years. 

When I am in want of new ideas and perspectives/ angles, I am reminded of the beauty of nature which is fresh and beautiful every second of the time that we are willing to spend watching it. Fresh view/ fresh imagination. Where does nature take its unique beauty ?

Maybe because it does not intend to create astonishing views, its perpetual change is vibrant. We, writers, should do the same. Write without thinking at the final results. Just write and the shape of your ideas will be magnificent.

Don’t describe an emotion, make it.

I was trying to mimic the talent of Proust and try to employ the madeleine effect. It’s the way in which a certain smell, taste, or other sensory experience suddenly triggers a specific memory for you, especially a memory that’s strong, clear, and emotional.
Word that memory with pathos and imagine that your readers rely on you to understand the structure of a moon beam and the sun-filled glare of the blinding sea.

Why do you like Bridgerton?
I appreciate the allure of opulence and the absence of mundane concerns that permeate the lives of the main characters.
The main focus is on conforming to societal expectations when it comes to choosing a life partner. The soundtrack and costumes from the first season were truly impressive.

Each episode focuses on portraying contemporary life within a historical TV series. Bridgerton stands out from other period series by focusing on the timeless theme of love.
I would have liked a greater sense of realism from this perspective.

Therefore, I prefer Julian Fellowes‘ interpretation and portrayals in The Gilded Age.
