Please be aware of this scam!

I almost got duped by an email that had all the hallmarks of a legitimate legal notice from a prestigious law firm, no less. The subject line screamed urgency:

“FINAL LEGAL NOTICE PRIOR TO INTERNATIONAL LITIGATION.”

I have been receiving these emails for an extended period.

I consistently receive emails like this, including some from Musat & Asociatii, a celebrated and very famous law firm in my country.

Firstly, Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP is a legitimate company, but it has nothing to do with this story.

I usually do not change my stance regarding these new scam-type emails. To determine if these emails are legitimate, I consider the following factors:

Who has sent this? I check the email address. If the email address appears to be from Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook, the message is a scam. Do you imagine a reputed law firm in New York not writing from a corporate email address? I don’t.

There are errors in spelling and grammar, as well as irregularities in translation. I can spot the AI-generated translations from far away.

The email contains embedded links that require immediate clicks. NEVER DO THAT!

The email’s topic matters. Typically, the email requests payment for copyright infringement. Have you ever done that?

I never do. I use only my content and my photos or Pexels photos or photos from the public domain (such as Facebook). So, what infringement?
