Myth and Mirth

“The poet Rilke looked at a statue of Apollo about fifty years ago, and Apollo spoke to him. ‘You must change your life,’ he said. When true myth rises into consciousness, that is always its message. You must change your life.
Ursula K. Le Guin ~ “Myth and Archetype in Science Fiction”

I look at Vincent van Gogh‘s zest and he spoke to me. “You must see the truth.”

I look at Michael Cheval‘s dance of color and he spoke to me. “You must believe in magic.”

I look at Remedios Varo‘s wild fire and she spoke to me. “You must acquiesce your dark side.”

Engleza de joi/ Veil

Veil = a piece of fine material worn by women to protect or conceal the face.

“Tell the truth through whichever veil comes to hand — but tell it. Resign yourself to the lifelong sadness that comes from never being satisfied.” – from Zadie Smith‘s 10 Rules of Writing

Engleza de joi/ Porous

Porous = having minute interstices through which liquid or air may pass.

“Make your ego porous. Will is of little importance, complaining is nothing, fame is nothing. Openness, patience, receptivity, solitude is everything.” – Rainer Maria Rilke

Engleza de joi/ Lurk

Lurk =  to wait or move in a secret way so that you cannot be seen.

“You must write every single day of your life… You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads… may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.”
Ray Bradbury

I am a forest

I am a forest, and a night of dark trees: but he who is not afraid of my darkness, will find banks full of roses under my cypresses.
Friederich Nietzsche

I am a cloud, and a siege of tornadoes: but he who is not afraid of my swirl, will find banks of rainbows beneath my grey.
I am a gale, and the yearn to push boats ahaven: but he who is not afraid of my blow, will fly with the skylarks.
I am a sea, and a green of waves: but he who is not afraid of my abyss, will swim away with the mermaids.
I am the night, and the thrill of dark dreams: but he who is not afraid of my nightmares, will fall sleep with the daffodils.

Engleza de joi/ Foretell

Foretell = to tell beforehand, to predict.

“The moon is dark, and the gods dance in the night; there is terror in the sky, for upon the moon hath sunk an eclipse foretold in no books of men or of earth’s gods.”
– H. P. Lovecraft
