SD Short Story Contest Finalist: Dear You – Teri Blades

Love shuffled its feet in
Dear You by Teri Blades

“It’s been a few years since I wrote a letter to you and it’s been 365 days since we last spoke, 8760 hours since we last saw each other. Do you remember?”

About the author: I am an emerging writer and theatre enthusiast with a small upcoming theatre company based in Barbados. Dear You was inspired from walking the historic streets of Barbados’ capital and dreaming of a tragic love.

SD Short Story Contest Finalist: The Chasm – Stephanie Clark

The Chasm by Stephanie Clark for the SD Short Story Contest

“His hands shake, trembling on fragments of the cool autumn breeze, but the subtle quiver of his upper lip says it’s nothing to do with the dropping temperatures. Darting eyes, wide with anger and resentment, seek out a place to rest themselves but spy only treason and heartbreak.”

Stephanie Clark has been a freelance writer for over eight years. She finds her passion in the pause one takes when looking for the right word.

Song of Spring

From the Anthology Volume I: Writings from the Sudden Denouement Literary Collective

Spring is a princess
without voice
only fingers
to mix colors
in the rainbows.

She’s got a vessel
for the softest fragrance
pressed in archives
in the Library of Scent…
There are plums
the cherries
and the blooms of vines
escalating
on the earth’s shelves…

Anyone who writes down
to Spring
is simply wasting
a leaf of scent.

No one is ever so poor
as not to write up
music
to all the shades of Spring
and to the dancing stars
to give a gift
of chaos…

© Iulia Halatz

She says: “Be the one who cares, make words so disruptive that they create new worlds, hopes and dreams. Even if we are unhappy dinosaurs and find shelter in an Iron Tale or ruminate about feeling too much, whilst declaring colorless apparel, we should take power and strength from our stories.”
Her published poems can be found in The Sudden Denouement Anthology Volume I.

SD Short Story Contest Finalist: Madame Guillotine – Brian J. Welch

Enthralling story by Brian J. Welch on Sudden Denouement Literary Collective

“… Those who watched loved nothing more than the entertainment that her kiss provided, something to break up their monotonous and feckless lives. The crowd saw only show. Louis, however, saw only her grace… and her neglect. He could see that although she stood tall and proud in the square, fulfilling her purpose, what she really needed was a few moments of tenderness…”

The Crime of Understanding – David Lohrey

David Lohrey on Sudden Denouement Literary Collective

He tells me Fashion has a purpose.
“You’re not against anything,” I say.
This is part of the problem. People
defend the end of the world, explain
it, like they don’t care. Like if they
understand it, they can control it.

Sudden Denouement Welcomes New Collective Member R. S. Williams – These Broken Gods II

“We and us, as gods of ink,
with stars snatched in fists made of paper and power,
shall sin…”

Foundations – Jimmi Campkin

The knight of infinite resignation – Nitin Lalit Murali

Magnificent piece by Nitin Lalit Murali on Sudden Denouement Literary Collective

“The sunrise kills, and the sunset terrifies. I snatch sleep between the aubade and the curtain call, but even then, demonic dreams haunt. I’m not your source of inspiration.
….
So, I don’t ask for your sympathy and empathy is never given without a clause. I only ask for your understanding.”

Alfa Reviews Anthology Volume I: Writings from the Sudden Denouement Literary Collective

“If you find yourself hungry for the kind of words that walk boldly into the dark filled spaces of your poetic heart, be prepared to put your dancing shoes on. This anthology is a collective kaleidoscope of fragmented and pulsing light from some of the most talented writers around the globe. Having them intermingle, and rubbing shoulders against each other in one volume – is a gala for the senses.”

Polonius – Lois E. Linkens

Lois E. Linkens on Sudden Denouement

This burnished arras, the fibre’s thick
Like short red grass. I know t’other face
With heavy gold and Denmark’s seal.
Those bleats of pain are crass
Behind so fine a pile.

https://suddendenouement.com/2019/02/25/polonius-lois-e-linkens/

Lois is a poet and student from England. She is studying the literature of the Romantics and hopes their values and innovations will filter through into her own work. She is working on longer projects at present, with a hope to publish poetry collections and novels in the years to come. She is a feminist, an nostalgic optimist, and a quiet voice in the shadows of Joanne Baillie and Charlotte Smith. It is a pleasure to present her work, and you can find more of it at Lois E. Linkens.
