The Moon and the Sixpence

“Who are you, Martin Eden? he demanded of himself in the looking-glass, that night when he got back to his room. He gazed at himself long and curiously. Who are you? What are you? Where do you belong?” – Jack London (Martin Eden)

You belong with the legions of toil that must grub in the dirt for the sixpence. You belong with the legions that dare lift their eyes to contemplate the moon to substitute food for the dance of imagination. You belong with the vulgar and with the spirited being what carries the tinge of heaven in a smile.

You belong with all that is hard, low and unbeautiful, yet you dare live with the stars and make stardust trails. You belong by rights with the legions of strive, nevertheless in one corner of the mind there is an inverted eye that yearns for the lunarian shape-shifting beauty.

You belong by rights to creativity and labor. Creativity is vision or as Samuel Butler vanguardly put (almost two centuries ago): “When a man is in doubt about this or that in his writing, it will often guide him if he asks himself how it will tell a hundred years hence.”

Creativity is strategy. Strategy must vary as does the moon.

We are not so busy looking at the moon that we do not see the sixpence at our feet. Nor are we so engulfed in drudge that we do not see the sky. We’d better see the moon and the sixpence all at once. Our dreams and our toils should answer all our questions in the change of crescents to vanishing waning moons.

Love Labyrinth

Labyrinth is called
The love
outstretching and unending
like the gusts
of fadeless despair…
Against the mild dews
in pure mornings.

Tomorrows spread
and dawn always
Whilst the scent of your
Love is immortal.

Love is not love
if created in a feeling
of today.

Hope

Hope is a wounded seagull
perched on a blue cliff
in mid storm.

It is the beautiful girl giving you a smile
and words that smell like midnight lilies.

Hope is the nadir
of this imperfect world.

I Don’t Want the Summer to End

I don’t want the summer to end
That is why I try to suspend
My thoughts of winters and grey
Garnering drops of snow and dismay.

I don’t want the summer to end
That is why I am hand in hand
With clouds and planets blue,
Roses and treasures that have no clue
Of corrupt winds and misty reign
In the apocalypse of rain.

I don’t want the summer to end…

Melt

I have shared
land and sky
with you.
I have tasted
blood and honey.
My witch-oil turned
to dragon-fire
at your touch…
……………………………………………………………………….
It feels like getting drunk
on old reddish wine
long softened
during times of
War
Equanimity
and
Comets.
What shall I pour in your glass?
Molten flowers
Golden ink
Lucid light
Unicorn mirth…
………………………………………………………………………..
I fear any story
whose ink
my words
can’t drink…
Yet I drip in yours
ever since.
When your arms call
and your lips
read all my feral kisses
How can there be no heaven?

Writer for a new Medium publication

I am honored to have been invited to write for another Medium publication, Literary Impulse.
A community space for LITERARY FICTION, POETRY, PHILOSOPHY, POLITICS AND DIALOGUE with a mission of ‘social change through creative endeavours’.

Over the years, writing has shaped my inner and outer life.
I started writing because of pain…
“To write with the truth of pain in your mouth is gruesome poetry … You’ll have to cut out your heart with every word and show it to the world, then hope it will heal. This is how the light gets in, also the dark. To acknowledge fear, defeat, despair and pretend serenity of a lesson learned while patching up the wounds is … Life.” – Tyrannosaurus Writing

Then I kept on writing because:
“You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.”
Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing

Presently I write for the following Medium publications: Blue Insights (to which I am also editor), Poetry’s Home, My Selections, Resistance Poetry, Intimately Intricate.

For me, writing is entering other worlds with my written words as keys.
Words open many doors. In written form or not.

Greens

We write
for love
and be loved.

And to feel
the exodus
of the shadows
in the glimmer
of tomorrow.

If my soul were a colour
it would be green.
Green has plundered
my everything
like barbarians
distant shores.

My eyes are also charmed
with the green
they pick up
from the sun…*

“Nothing is more important than summer”
and its green offerings on the altar of love…

*In the absence of the sun, my eyes are brown.

To Be in Love

The Sea is a fickle lover
One day sweet as
honey dew
The other bitter
like sin…
that makes you
fall harder
as if hit
by a ton of bricks
made of water glass
Sincerity.

It loves you back
with ardor
You have been dissolved…
Both limbs and heart
know no more
than
liquid love
that once was only
words…

Fortitude

Fortitude
Blue Insights Cultural Prompt — May 2021

We are all fighters in trenches
and defiers on battlefields.

We are all thinkers
of simplicities and beauties.

We are all carriers
of hopes and smiles.

We are all dreamers
of strange countries
full of secrets and dreams.

We are all lovers
of abysmal seas
and sunlight glare.

We are all cherishers
of truth and magic.

We are all travelers
On untrodden paths
amidst unruffled nights
and shimmering fireflies.

We are all storytellers
in a defiant era
of storms…

We are all…

For the Blue Insights Cultural Prompt — May 2021, I have chosen “Fortitude”.

Whatever

Whatever I consider important
The trees don’t care.

Wherever I shed my tears
The flowers don’t know.

Some days have the glitter of butterflies’ wings
Some glint like the fires of Mordor.
Some have the clear shine of truth
Drifting away…
Some the warmth of
a broken heart
Who died
And became Art.
