🎄20 Days Of Christmas
💥Following the (Romanian) chaos of the last two weeks, when I was somewhat on the brink of a heart attack, I can now finally concentrate on the most beautiful days of winter.
💥I am going to start publishing the most beautiful Christmas paintings today.
🎄Christmas is the time of enlightenment, inner warmth, and profound joy, and I particularly liked what T.S. Eliot said in “The Cultivation of Christmas Trees”.
⚡️“Christmas in Romania means drummers dressed up in bearskins to spook evil spirits and joyous children in colorful apparel chanting at doorways: ‘Do you welcome the Christmas Eve’s carolers?’” – Iulia Halatz
🎄Let’s start growing our Inventory of Light with the most beautiful Christmas paintings.

The Economist’s word of the year for 2024
“The Greeks knew how to talk about politics and power”
The word of the year that the Economist settled on is kakistocracy: the rule of the worst.
“government by the worst element of a society,” 1829, coined (by Thomas Love Peacock) on analogy of its opposite, aristocracy, from Greek kakistos “worst,” superlative of kakos “bad” + -cracy. Perhaps the closest word in ancient Greek was kakonomia “a bad system of laws and government,” hence kakonomos “with bad laws, ill-governed.” – from www.etymonline.com
This is far from an ancient word, at least in English; indeed, it appears to be an antonym created to counter aristocracy. The earliest known use of kakistocracy was in the 1820s. The OED cites evidence for it from 1829, in the writing of Thomas Love Peacock, satirical novelist and poet.

🔔New video about the Phrasal Verbs in English!
🔔Mastering Common Phrasal Verbs: A Fun Explainer!
➡️Phrasal verbs are two or more words that together act as a completely new verb with a meaning separate from those of the original words. For example, pick up means to grab or lift, very different from the definitions of pick and up alone.
➡️Popular in spoken English, phrasal verbs can be quite confusing because their definitions aren’t always easy to guess—and there are thousands of them. In fact, many of the base verbs used to form phrasal verbs are used in multiple different phrasal verbs with distinct meanings, which can add to the confusion.
➡️For multilingual speakers, in particular, phrasal verbs are one of the most difficult topics in learning English. To help simplify this complicated subject, what follows is our guide to understanding English phrasal verbs, including a list of the most common ones.

🔔Only English in the classroom?
💆Yes, I also have international students with whom I don’t share a common language.
💆My students are never struggling with understanding, as I am willing to explain any concepts and terms in a simpler way.
❤️The greatest compliment I have received from my students is about making them learn English without being aware that they were learning anything. The struggle was nil.
✨That is the power of conversation ONLY in English!
💸Nevertheless, I make sure that the learning also happens outside the classroom by sending my students:
➡️The follow up sheet after every session.
➡️Videos made by me about a variety of topics, including grammar themes, trending news, the global economy, new English vocabulary, and essential economic concepts.
➡️Articles and books from my digital library that I have built in 20 years of teaching.

🔔New video about the Passive Voice in English!
🔔What is the passive voice?
➡️In general, the active voice makes your writing stronger, more direct, and, you guessed it, more active. The subject is something, or it does the action of the verb in the sentence. With the passive voice, the subject is acted upon by some other performer of the verb. (In case you weren’t paying attention, the previous two sentences use the type of voice they describe.)
➡️But the passive voice is not incorrect. In fact, there are times when it can come in handy. Read on to learn how to form the active and passive voices, when using the passive voice is a good idea, and how to avoid confusing it with similar forms.
🔔The difference between active and passive voice
➡️While tense is all about time references, voice describes whether the grammatical subject of a clause performs or receives the action of the verb.
➡️Here’s the formula for the active voice:
[subject]+[verb (performed by the subject)]+[optional object]
Chester kicked the ball.
➡️In a passive voice construction, the grammatical subject of the clause receives the action of the verb. So the ball from the above sentence, which is receiving the action, becomes the subject. The formula:
[subject]+[some form of the verb to be]+[past participle of a transitive verb]+[optional prepositional phrase]
The ball was kicked by Chester.
➡️That last little bit—“by Chester”—is a prepositional phrase that tells you who the performer of the action is. But even though Chester is the one doing the kicking, he’s no longer the grammatical subject. A passive voice construction can even drop him from the sentence entirely:
The ball was kicked.

Here is the best writing tip I know.
Before you send or share something, read it out loud. This applies to emails, social media posts, articles, and even text messages, provided they are deemed important.
Reading it out loud as if you were telling a story to a group of people is the key. When I used to read my writing aloud, I would mumble it and not use the appropriate tone or speed. I would always forget things, and some parts would still sound bad.
I started doing this in my early days of writing. Surprisingly, I began with poetry, and unsure of my abilities, I took calculated risks to enhance it. It worked like a charm.
