This week I recommend a visit to Starhotels Cristallo Palace from the 2nd to the 7th of September!

1. Walking the five kilometers of the Venetian Walls, UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Wander around the Venetian Walls, the stars of Bergamo’s enchanted skyline.  Sunset from the ramparts looks absolutely fantastic! Little secret: you can even see Milan if you use one of the telescopes along the road.

2. Visit one single building, the Accademia Carrara, to meet every Renaissance master.
Botticelli, Bellini, Raphael, Titian, Lotto, famous Bergamo portraitist Moroni. Visit the masters of XVI Century Italian art, all housed at the Accademia Carrara; their collection is among the most cherished in Europe.

3. Exploring the protected area of the Hills Park climbing up the many stairways crossing its woods and fields is an unusual way to discover the green heart of Bergamo, enjoying some breath-taking and unexpected landscapes.

4. Tasting Stracciatella ice cream flavour right where it was created. Milk ice cream with crunchy dark chocolate.
How was Stracciatella invented? If you want to know it, we suggest you to go to “La Marianna” in Colle Aperto, the ice cream parlour where children’s most-loved flavour was created.

!!! Stracciatella is a variety of gelato, consisting of fine strands of drizzled chocolate stirred through it. It was originally created in Bergamo, northern Italy, at the Ristorante La Marianna in 1961. Stracciatella was inspired by stracciatella soup, made from broth into which beaten egg is drizzled, popular around Rome. It is one of the most renowned Italian gelato flavors.

5. Counting the one hundred Campanone bell tolls
Do not miss this centennial appointment. Every night at 10 at Piazza Vecchia the huge bell on top of the Civic Tower rings one hundred times: it used to alert the city’s residents of the impending gate closure.

What Is Greenwashing?

Greenwashing is the process of conveying a false impression or misleading information about how a company’s products are environmentally sound. Greenwashing involves making an unsubstantiated claim to deceive consumers into believing that a company’s products are environmentally friendly or have a greater positive environmental impact than they actually do.

In addition, greenwashing may occur when a company attempts to emphasize sustainable aspects of a product to overshadow the company’s involvement in environmentally damaging practices. Performed through the use of environmental imagery, misleading labels, and hiding tradeoffs, greenwashing is a play on the term “whitewashing,” which means using false information to intentionally hide wrongdoing, error, or an unpleasant situation in an attempt to make it seem less bad than it is.

Greenwashing is an attempt to capitalize on the growing demand for environmentally sound products.
Greenwashing can convey a false impression that a company or its products are environmentally conscious or friendly.
Critics have accused some companies of greenwashing to capitalize on the socially responsible or environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing movement.
Genuinely green products or businesses back up their claims with facts and details.
Also known as “green sheen,” greenwashing is an attempt to capitalize on the growing demand for environmentally sound products, whether that means they are more natural, healthier, free of chemicals, recyclable, or less wasteful of natural resources.

Bergamo is a city in the alpine Lombardy region of Northern Italy, approximately 40 km (25 miles) northeast of Milan, and about 30 km (19 miles) from Switzerland, the alpine lakes Como and Iseo and 70 km (43 miles) from Garda and Maggiore. The Bergamo Alps begin immediately north of the city.

The city of Bergamo is composed of an old walled core, known as Città Alta (“Upper Town”), nestled within a system of hills, and the modern expansion in the plains below. The upper town is encircled by massive Venetian defensive systems that are a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 9 July 2017.

Bergamo is well connected to several cities in Italy, thanks to the motorway A4 stretching on the axis between Milan, Verona, and Venice. The city is served by II Caravaggio International Airport, the third-busiest airport in Italy with 12.3 million passengers in 2017. Bergamo is the second most visited city in Lombardy after Milan.

Imagine meeting a stranger at a party. What makes for a successful encounter? The first lesson is inspired by an old shampoo commercial: you never get a second chance to make a first impression. The second lesson is that you don’t need extravagant attire to stand out. The third is to remember that what you omit can be as important as what you say.

These principles also apply to writing a CV. A résumé is not an exhaustive list of every job you’ve had or your life story. It’s a marketing tool, much like that hair-care advertisement. Recruiters and hiring managers, akin to party guests, quickly decide if they want to engage further. A study suggests that such professionals spend an average of 7.4 seconds skimming a job application. Here are a few tips to make those seconds count effectively.

Customize your CV for each job application. Highlight the skills and experiences most relevant to the job you’re applying for.

Use a clean, professional layout with clear headings and bullet points.
Stick to a standard font (e.g., Arial, Calibri) and keep it consistent throughout.
Ensure your CV is easy to read by using appropriate spacing and margins.

Start with a compelling personal statement or summary that encapsulates your professional identity and career aspirations in a few sentences.

Highlight your achievements rather than just listing job duties.
Use quantifiable metrics to demonstrate your impact (e.g., “Increased sales by 20%”).

Include a skills section that showcases both hard and soft skills relevant to the job.
Use keywords from the job description to ensure your CV passes through Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).

List your work experience in reverse chronological order.
Focus on roles from the past 10-15 years, unless earlier roles are highly relevant.

Include your highest level of education and any relevant certifications.
Mention any honors or distinctions received.

Use Action Verbs!
Start each bullet point with a strong action verb (e.g., “Led,” “Developed,” “Managed”).

Red Ocean Vs Blue Ocean Strategy

The term “Red Ocean” metaphorically represents a market characterized by fierce competition, where the cut-throat nature of competition turns the ocean bloody red.

In a Red Ocean competition is Fierce.
Companies compete in a saturated market space where growth often comes at the expense of competitors.
The emphasis is on capturing and redistributing existing demand rather than creating new demand.
Companies often face a trade-off between differentiating their offering and minimizing costs.
Strategies focus on either offering lower prices than competitors or providing differentiated offerings to justify higher prices.

In contrast, the “Blue Ocean Strategy” suggests creating new, uncontested market spaces ( blue oceans), rendering the competition irrelevant. Blue Ocean focuses on innovation, creating new demand, and breaking away from the competition.

What is Blue Ocean Strategy?
Blue Ocean Strategy is a strategic business framework in which companies achieve superior market positions by creating new and uncontested market spaces (aka “blue oceans”) instead of competing in existing and competition-saturated markets (aka “red oceans”).

Developed in the 1990s by INSEAD professors W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne, the concept was published in 2005 with the release of their book Blue Ocean Strategy

Blue Ocean Strategy is a strategic business framework in which companies achieve superior market positions by creating new and uncontested market spaces (aka “blue oceans”) instead of competing in existing and competition-saturated markets (aka “red oceans”).

How do you create a blue ocean?
You can create a blue ocean by reshaping market boundaries and focusing on “value innovation” to generate fresh demand. This approach significantly differentiates your business from existing rivals. If done correctly, it can render your competition irrelevant.

The key principle here is “value innovation,” which is a simple yet tricky concept. Value innovation doesn’t necessarily rely on technological breakthroughs. Instead, it creatively reorganizes existing technologies to offer unique value. In Blue Ocean Strategy, this means creating a differentiated solution at a low cost for the company or the consumer (or both).
