Only English In The Classroom?/ Nur Englisch im Klassenzimmer?

New video about the Second Verb in English!

🔔New video about the Second Verb in English!

🔔Mastering English grammar: The Second Verb: -Ing or Infinitive?

➡️Do you know when to use -ing and when to use to + infinitive after a verb? Test what you know with interactive exercises and read the explanation to help you.

➡️Look at these examples to see how the verb forms are used.
I enjoy learning languages.
I want to learn a new language.

➡️Grammar explanation
A verb can be followed by another verb. The second one usually needs to change into the -ing form or the to + infinitive form. Which form you need depends on what the first verb is.

Verbs followed by the -ing form
When enjoy, admit and mind are followed by another verb, it must be in the -ing form.

I enjoy travelling.
He admitted stealing the necklace.
I don’t mind waiting if you’re busy.

Only English In The Classroom?

🔔Only English in the classroom?

💆Yes, I also have international students with whom I don’t share a common language.

💆My students are never struggling with understanding, as I am willing to explain any concepts and terms in a simpler way.

❤️The greatest compliment I have received from my students is about making them learn English without being aware that they were learning anything. The struggle was nil.

✨That is the power of conversation ONLY in English!

💸Nevertheless, I make sure that the learning also happens outside the classroom by sending my students:
➡️The follow up sheet after every session.
➡️Videos made by me about a variety of topics, including grammar themes, trending news, the global economy, new English vocabulary, and essential economic concepts.
➡️Articles and books from my digital library that I have built in 20 years of teaching.

New video about the Passive Voice in English!

🔔New video about the Passive Voice in English!

🔔What is the passive voice?

➡️In general, the active voice makes your writing stronger, more direct, and, you guessed it, more active. The subject is something, or it does the action of the verb in the sentence. With the passive voice, the subject is acted upon by some other performer of the verb. (In case you weren’t paying attention, the previous two sentences use the type of voice they describe.)

➡️But the passive voice is not incorrect. In fact, there are times when it can come in handy. Read on to learn how to form the active and passive voices, when using the passive voice is a good idea, and how to avoid confusing it with similar forms.

🔔The difference between active and passive voice

➡️While tense is all about time references, voice describes whether the grammatical subject of a clause performs or receives the action of the verb.

➡️Here’s the formula for the active voice:
[subject]+[verb (performed by the subject)]+[optional object]
Chester kicked the ball.

➡️In a passive voice construction, the grammatical subject of the clause receives the action of the verb. So the ball from the above sentence, which is receiving the action, becomes the subject. The formula:
[subject]+[some form of the verb to be]+[past participle of a transitive verb]+[optional prepositional phrase]
The ball was kicked by Chester.

➡️That last little bit—“by Chester”—is a prepositional phrase that tells you who the performer of the action is. But even though Chester is the one doing the kicking, he’s no longer the grammatical subject. A passive voice construction can even drop him from the sentence entirely:
The ball was kicked.

The Best Writing Tip

Here is the best writing tip I know.

Before you send or share something, read it out loud. This applies to emails, social media posts, articles, and even text messages, provided they are deemed important.

Reading it out loud as if you were telling a story to a group of people is the key. When I used to read my writing aloud, I would mumble it and not use the appropriate tone or speed. I would always forget things, and some parts would still sound bad.

I started doing this in my early days of writing. Surprisingly, I began with poetry, and unsure of my abilities, I took calculated risks to enhance it. It worked like a charm.

About Me

👋Hi, I’m Iulia and I do not like to talk about myself.

❤️Here’s a little intro as I have never done that before.

💆I started my coaching business in 2012. Since then I had thousands of students and met some of the most fascinating people in the world. I am very grateful for that.

👀I am very independent and like to keep my life private.

💚I have 3 stepdaughters who sometimes call me “mother-of-dragons”🐉.

✈️Thanks to freelancing, I started remote work way before the pandemic, and I write and teach on the go. Some of my most beautiful articles were written on the beach.

🏪Only after I became city councillor did I realize that my greatest strength is public speaking and rhetoric.

💸I niched down a bit and I write fragrance and legal business news articles and SEO blogs.

✏️In 2012, during a period of significant challenges, I began writing by combining words into poems. Since then, two anthologies have published my writings.

💟Writing is my medicine in times of adversity.

Fun facts:
🎵 I took piano lessons a long time ago.
🚲I’m a big-time cyclist and roller-skater⛸. I have developed the habit of gracefully falling with minor injuries.
🦋I have a rare phobia, Lepidopterophobia (fear of butterflies and moths), but I like snakes 🐍.
📚I’ve always loved geometry, reading, and teaching.
🥐Even though I’m an awful cook, I still put in the time and effort to make elaborate dinners for Easter and Christmas.

Your turn! Would love to hear a fun fact about you too 😀💜.

This photo was taken in the Bucegi mountains and it is probably one of my best.

LEGAL ENGLISH: WHAT DOES A CONTRACT DO?

A contract establishes the terms of the parties’ relationship. It reflects their agreement as to the rules that will govern their transaction.

The rules generally include:
➡️the statements of facts that each party made that induced the other to enter the transaction;
➡️each party’s promises as to its future performance;
➡️each party’s rights;
➡️the events that must occur before each party is obligated to perform;
➡️each party’s discretionary authority;
➡️how the contract will end, including the events that constitute breach and the remedies for breach;
and
➡️the general policies that govern the parties’ relationship.

✨These rules are the parties’ private laws, which the courts will enforce, subject to public policy exceptions found in statutes and common law. Indeed, commentators speak of contracts as private law. They also refer to them as planning documents. Unlike litigation, which looks back in time, contracts look forward to the parties’ future relationship and reflect their joint plans.

✨A contract also helps the parties to problem solve. Often parties will have the same goal but differ as to how to resolve a specific business issue.

✨A well-written contract can bridge this difference, giving each party enough of what it needs to agree to the contract.

To be continued!

What is the difference between Tax and Duty?

✨A question emerged at one of our legal English courses:

What is the difference between Tax and Duty?

➡️Tax is a mandatory obligation payable to the government levied on income, wealth, services, sales etc.

➡️Duty is a fee charged by the government on manufacture and import / export of goods levied on goods and financial transactions.

Duty Tax on Imports and Exports: Meaning and Examples

➡️A duty is a tax levied on certain goods, services, or other transactions. Governments commonly impose customs duties and other taxes on imports and exports. Duties, which are a form of revenue, are enforceable by law and may be imposed on commodities or financial transactions instead of individuals. The term duty also refers to the responsibilities held by an individual, especially someone in a position of power.

➡️A duty is a form of taxation levied on certain goods, services, or other transactions that are imported and exported

➡️Duty rates are a percentage determined by the total value of the goods paid for in another country.

➡️Duties provide a form of commerce protection for jobs, the economy, the environment, and other interests by controlling the influx and outflow of merchandise.

➡️A duty may also be someone’s moral or fiduciary responsibility.

➡️Governments impose taxes on individuals and companies that make or receive shipments internationally. These levies must be paid before delivery can be made. These levies are called customs or import duties. These are tariffs or taxes imposed on goods transported across international borders.

➡️Customs duty rates are a percentage determined by the total value of the goods paid for in another country. The quality, size, or weight of the product are not determining factors.1 The Harmonized Tariff System of the United States is used domestically as a reference for applicable tariffs on merchandise imported to the country.2

Tips For Job Seekers: What Is The Difference Between Blue-Collar And White-Collar Jobs?

“Blue-collar” and “white-collar” jobs are two distinct classifications of employment that differ in terms of the type of labor involved, the work setting and the level of education required.

Blue-collar jobs tend to entail manual labor and working with hands and tools, while white-collar jobs comprise office, administrative and managerial work. Blue-collar work generally occurs in factories, warehouses, outdoors, construction sites and people’s homes, while white-collar workers are stationed at a desk.

The term “blue collar” was first coined in the early 20th century when laborers donned durable fabrics, like blue denim or chambray. The dark color would help disguise the dirt and grease, which were a part of their job.

The term “white collar,” popularized by American novelist Upton Sinclair in the 1930s, refers to the crisp, button-down, white shirts that are worn by business professionals.

Because white-collar jobs have a higher barrier to entry, in terms of education, and earn an annual salary rather than an hourly wage, these roles are often perceived as more prestigious and desirable. However, both categories of workers are integral to the functioning of society and prop up the nation’s economy.
